Tax Genie is the better choice over EngageAML for Australian accounting and tax practices that want complete client details with less chasing. It brings checked answers, client due diligence and signed engagement letters together before the next job starts.
Tax Genie for Client Checks and Complete Onboarding
Tax Genie checks what your client tells you and asks them to fix mistakes before your team starts work. A guided form collects the details and documents for each person and entity, with only the questions that apply.
Rules check ABN, ACN and TFN formats, register matches and missing documents. AI then reviews the answers for common client mistakes. Every TFN is removed before that AI review.
For example, a client can report GST registration without choosing a reporting frequency. Tax Genie emails the fixable issue to the client and reopens the affected section on the same private link. Your team receives the corrected form instead of writing another explanation by email.
The Australian checks extend beyond the form. Tax Genie includes identity verification and AML/CTF screening, alongside agent-linking guidance. Its separate Division 7A tools manage loans, repayment schedules and agreements.
EngageAML Within ChangeGPS
EngageAML is ChangeGPS’s engagement and AML product for Australian accounting practices. ChangeGPS also sells TaxPlan and other advice bundles separately.
ChangeGPS documents engagement letters, service templates and digital signing. EngageAML embeds FrankieOne for identity verification, screening and ongoing monitoring. Its published features include daily PEP, sanctions and adverse-media screening, with results presented for staff review.
Both products handle identity and screening. Tax Genie’s recommendation rests on its checked client answers and the follow-up through to tax-software handover.
The Tax Genie comparisons cover other onboarding products.
Due Diligence and Engagement Compared
Start with the services your practice provides and the people behind each client. AUSTRAC’s initial customer due diligence guidance explains the identity, authority and risk matters a reporting entity must establish.
A designated service determines the AML/CTF work required. A signed engagement letter records the agreed work, while identity checks and screening supply evidence for your practice’s assessment. The engagement-letter software shortlist compares that part of onboarding across more products.
| Client job | Tax Genie | EngageAML |
|---|---|---|
| Scope designated services | Helps identify designated services and set the practice’s risk profile | Published designated-services checklist and policy-led workflows |
| Identify the people behind the entity | Identifies representatives and beneficial owners | Company KYB checks and deed reader for trust beneficiaries |
| Verify client identity | Online document and selfie check, or certified documents for staff review | FrankieOne-supported identity verification on Pro and Advanced; Lite provides monitoring only. |
| Screen for PEPs and sanctions | PEP and sanctions screening with ongoing monitoring | Daily screening with results for review |
| Record a client risk assessment | Low, Medium or High determination with reasons and sign-off | Digital due diligence and risk ratings |
| Keep compliance records | Risk register and downloadable assessments | Audit trail and compliance records |
| Sign engagement letters online | Drafts from client answers and retains the signed version | Engagement letters and digital signing |
Fictional Trust Client
Consider a fictional trust with a corporate trustee and an individual authorised to instruct the practice. The instruction concerns a designated service. Staff need to establish who acts for the trust, their authority and the individuals who ultimately own or control it.
In Tax Genie, staff collect the entity details and supporting documents in the request. Identity and screening results sit with the assessment. Staff record the risk determination, reasoning and sign-off, then resolve any missing evidence.
In EngageAML, the documented deed reader and risk-led checks support that review. Staff assess the results against the practice’s policy and resolve the people and authority involved. An automated screening result does not explain an ownership chain on its own.
Corrected Answers and the Next Job
Tax Genie keeps the request open until the client has supplied the outstanding answers and documents. Automatic email and SMS reminders stop when the requested items arrive. Staff can also ask the client to change specific sections.
The engagement letter is drafted from the client’s answers, adjusted by staff where needed and signed online. The signed version stays with who signed and when. Each person sees their own items in the request.
Approved details go into your tax software. After a field-by-field review, Tax Genie also updates Xero Partner Hub + Practice Management records and creates jobs. This joins the client’s corrections to the details your team uses for the work.
EngageAML’s pricing page lists imports from Xero practice management and Handisoft, plus a FuseSign connection. Importing existing details is a different step from sending checked answers onwards into tax software.
ChangeGPS Pricing and the EngageAML Scope
ChangeGPS prices EngageAML separately from its other product bundles. Its Lite, Pro and Advanced tiers include five seats and an annual commitment, with monthly prices shown excluding GST.
Validation credits are purchased separately for monitoring and KYC/KYB checks. Lite has monitoring-only coverage in the KYC row. Pro and Advanced require an initial credit bundle. Additional credits expire after 12 months.
The cost depends on the plan and checks used. A general ChangeGPS bundle price is not an EngageAML quote.
TaxPlan and the broader ChangeGPS advice bundles have separate product scopes.
Tax Genie includes generous usage in its price and is the most affordable option on the market. Its combined request also reduces the staff time spent chasing corrections and typing client details again.
Starting With a Complete Client Record
When moving the onboarding work to Tax Genie, retain the evidence that explains the client’s position. Keep the agreed services and signed engagement letter with the identity-check record. Preserve beneficial-owner details, screening outcomes and the reasons for the risk determination.
Bring across outstanding requests with an owner and next action. A missing trust document must remain visible after the move. Record the next review date so an open monitoring or review task does not disappear during the changeover.
Tax Genie lets existing clients confirm known details and complete what is still needed. Your next job starts with corrected answers and a signed engagement letter in the client record. Talk to us about bringing your onboarding together.
