Convert a PDF to Excel
This free PDF to Excel converter turns a local PDF table into editable cells in your browser. Review the recovered rows, then download an Excel workbook or CSV. You can use it without an email address or account.
- Choose PDF to Excel and select a local PDF.
- Enter the pages containing your table. Use Table region to exclude page headings or footers.
- Choose how to read the pages and interpret numbers, then select Extract table.
- Inspect every row, correct the cells and check the totals against the PDF.
- Confirm your review, then select Download Excel, Download CSV or Copy table.
The Excel download is an XLSX workbook with editable values. Copy table places tab-separated rows on your clipboard for pasting into a worksheet. Both methods recover data you can sort or use in calculations.
Read Scanned Tables With OCR
Optical character recognition (OCR) reads printed text from a scanned page image. Automatic mode extracts selectable PDF text and uses local OCR on pages without text. Choose OCR all when a page combines selectable text with a scanned table.
OCR supports upright English print on up to five selected pages per run. Handwriting, poor scans and password-protected PDFs need a clearer or unlocked source. Recognition confidence appears with the recovered rows, including a count of words below 80% confidence. A high score cannot prove a figure is correct.
Automated recovery uses local OCR and table parsing. It does not send your document to an AI service or hosted model. Check similar characters such as I and 1, missing decimal points and faint minus signs before accepting the result.
Review Rows and Preserve Formatting
Use Previous row and Next row to inspect every recovered row and edit its cells. Merge a wrapped description into the preceding row, or remove a repeated heading. Recheck amount cells after each merge.
Automatic spacing estimates columns. If cells join incorrectly, enter each column’s left edge as a percentage of page width. For example, 0,60,80 makes three columns. Compare the preview with the PDF because stored text order can differ from the printed layout.
Keep text preserves extracted characters. The number-format choices turn complete accounting numbers into plain decimals. For example, (1,250.50) becomes -1250.50 with the 1,234.50 choice. Check credit signs and decimal separators against the PDF.
In a fictional table, opening funds of $2,000 plus receipts of $750 less payments of $1,250 leave $1,500. If extraction misses a $200 payment row, the spreadsheet gives $1,700. The $200 difference identifies an incomplete extraction. Reconcile the row count as well as the total.
If Pages or Table region excluded a row, change those settings and extract again. If the row remains missing, insert it from the source in the downloaded Excel workbook. Recheck the row count and totals before using the workbook.
If OCR changes -200 to 200, that reversal changes the total by $400. If it reads 750 as 150, the total falls by $600. Correct those cells from the source before using Copy table or Download Excel.
The workbook retains rows and columns as editable values. It preserves leading-zero codes as text and stores plain decimal amounts as numbers. CSV contains values without workbook styling. Neither format recreates the PDF’s fonts, merged cells or full page appearance.
Formula-like text remains text in the workbook. CSV and clipboard output add an apostrophe before formula-like text to prevent it running as a spreadsheet formula. Negative decimal amounts stay numeric. Import identifier columns as text when opening CSV to preserve leading zeros.
Financial Statements Need Transaction Checks
A recovered table is ready for review, not a reconciled bank workbook. This converter does not check transaction dates, debit and credit signs or running balances. Use the bank statement converter for those transaction checks and opening-to-closing reconciliation.
Open the Workbook on a Mac
Run the browser converter on your Mac, download the XLSX workbook and open it in Excel for Mac. The conversion happens here before Excel opens the file. It does not depend on Excel having a PDF import command.
For CSV, Excel for Microsoft 365 for Mac supports Data > Get Data (Power Query), then Text/CSV. Review the delimiter and column types before loading the rows. Microsoft’s Mac data-source list includes Text/CSV and Excel Workbook but does not list PDF.
Adobe, Bluebeam and I Love PDF
In Adobe Acrobat, open the PDF and select Convert from the global bar. Choose Microsoft Excel in the left pane, select XLSX and then Convert to XLSX. Save the workbook and review the recovered cells.
Bluebeam Revu documents File > Export > Excel > Entire Document for a whole document. For a table, choose Page Region instead and drag a rectangle around the table. Revu performs text recovery when exporting scanned content to an Office format.
I Love PDF has a separate public PDF to Excel conversion service where you select a file for its conversion workflow. This converter processes your file locally. It supplies no affiliation, integration or access to Adobe, Bluebeam or I Love PDF.
Choose a PDF to Excel Converter
Choose a converter by your document and the review you need. A selectable-text table needs column recovery. A scan also needs OCR, while a mixed page needs control over which method reads it.
For a short printed table, this local tool gives you editable cells and correction controls before export. For complex layouts, compare the recovered row count and totals before accepting any conversion. Full-page visual fidelity and editable table data are different outcomes.
Download and Offline Use
Downloading a workbook saves the converted table; it does not install a desktop converter. PDF parsing and OCR use assets served with this website. Start conversion with a connection so the browser can load the required assets. After extraction, you can edit the recovered rows and download Excel or CSV offline. Reloading the page clears those rows. This tool has no installed offline mode.
The converter sends no document contents to Tax Genie or another service. It does not save files or extracted rows in browser storage or the page address. Clear files removes the selected file and rows from the tool. Leaving the page also clears them, including when you return through browser history.
Downloads remain on your device until you remove them, and copied rows remain on your clipboard until replaced. The browser controls memory release, so this page cannot securely erase physical memory.
Excel to PDF and Embedded Files
For reverse conversion, save the worksheet as a CSV file in Excel, then choose CSV to PDF here. Select that local CSV and review its rows before downloading the PDF. The export supports up to eight columns and 2,000 rows, with wrapped cells and repeated column headings.
The first CSV row becomes the PDF’s column headings. The converter exports values, so it does not preserve Excel formulas, charts or workbook styling. Save the worksheet as CSV before selecting it here. Native XLSX input is unsupported.
Inserting a PDF into an Excel workbook attaches or displays it as an object. The table remains inside that document. Extracting rows creates separate editable cells you can sort or use in calculations.
