Supported Statement Files
This bank statement converter turns supported PDF statements into transaction rows for CSV or Excel. It reads the ANZ deposit transaction layout described below and a generic five-column table. CSV exports also work.
For CSV, select the date and description columns, then either separate debit and credit columns or one signed amount column. A running balance column is optional. Choose whether a positive signed amount means money in or money out.
The ANZ deposit profile reads the Access Advantage Cheque statement’s transaction pages with Date, Transaction Details, Withdrawals ($), Deposits ($) and Balance ($) headings. It reads printed year markers, opening balance and end-of-period totals, including descriptions that continue onto another line. Enter the transaction page numbers to skip a summary cover. Other ANZ layouts and other banks’ PDF layouts are unsupported.
The generic PDF profile needs Date, Description, Debit, Credit and Balance headings in that order on every selected page. Each transaction must occupy one line. Extra text, including summaries and footers, causes that profile to reject the file.
Automatic recognition uses local OCR on pages without embedded text. Choose OCR for a scan with an incomplete text layer. OCR accepts up to five selected pages of upright English print. Recognition warnings identify scanned pages. Review the source beside every recognised cell and correct misread values before choosing Check reviewed rows. An unsupported or unclear layout is rejected without guessing transaction rows.
Files must contain no more than 2,000 transaction rows and be smaller than 5 MB. CSV files use UTF-8 with comma-separated columns and up to 50 columns. Dates must use YYYY-MM-DD or DD/MM/YYYY, and rows must run from oldest to newest. Amounts accept a decimal point, up to two decimal places and optional thousands commas. Each transaction amount and supplied balance must be within $999,999,999.99.
Check Debits, Credits and Balances
The balance check starts with the opening balance, adds credits and subtracts debits. The closing balance difference is your supplied closing balance minus that calculated amount. A zero difference means those totals agree. Each supplied running balance is also checked against the previous balance and the current transaction.
The fictional example starts at $1,000. A $500 client receipt takes the balance to $1,500. Supplies of $125.25 and a bank fee of $4.75 leave $1,370. The difference is $0.00 with a supplied closing balance of $1,370, or $1.00 with a closing balance of $1,371.
A balance agreement does not establish that every transaction belongs in the account. Review descriptions and dates against the statement. The converter reports differences without changing your source file or guessing missing transactions.
Download and Clear the File
Edit recognised cells in the review rows, then choose Check reviewed rows to run the balance and ledger checks. Changing a cell disables downloads until you check the rows again. Previous rows and Next rows move through 25 rows at a time. CSV exports contain ISO dates and plain numbers. Download Excel creates a local .xlsx workbook with the same checked transaction rows.
The Excel workbook keeps descriptions in text cells. In CSV downloads, a description that starts like a spreadsheet formula receives a leading apostrophe. The preview keeps the original description. This export change prevents the description from being treated as a formula when opened in a spreadsheet.
Conversion and comparison run in your browser. Statement and ledger contents are not uploaded, logged or saved in browser storage. Clear files removes the selected files, balances and preview from this page. Leaving or reloading the page also clears them. Files you download remain wherever your browser saves them.
Compare With a Supplied Ledger
Select an optional ledger CSV with Date, Description and Amount columns. A positive ledger amount means money in, and a negative amount means money out. The same date, row count and amount rules apply to both files.
The comparison pairs entries with the same calendar date and signed amount. It uses each occurrence once, so one ledger entry cannot match two repeated statement entries. Descriptions are shown for your review but do not decide the match.
Rows to preview switches between all statement transactions, unmatched statement entries and unmatched ledger entries. The comparison also shows the statement’s net movement minus the ledger’s net movement. These are candidate matches for review. Neither source file is corrected, and the download contains the statement transactions only.
