Select the Supported Entitlement
This parental leave pay calculator estimates gross government-funded payments for a birth mother or first adoptive parent with confirmed eligibility. Select the child’s birth or adoption period, then allocate that claimant’s payable days to payroll.
Select Confirmed only when the claimant meets the income and work tests, residence rules and care requirements. Birth registration, claiming timeframes and the rules about working on payment days must also be satisfied. The Services Australia eligibility rules explain these conditions.
The ordinary family allowance is 110 days for a child born or adopted from 1 Jul 2024 to 30 Jun 2025. It rises to 120 days for 1 Jul 2025 to 30 Jun 2026, then 130 days from 1 Jul 2026.
For partnered claimants, the corresponding partner reserve is 10, 15 or 20 days. The reserve still applies when only one partner is eligible. A single parent has no partner reserve and can choose to share days.
Enter all days allocated to the other parent. The calculator deducts the greater of those days and the partner reserve from the family allowance. For example, sharing 40 of 130 days leaves 90 for this claimant.
This estimate assumes ordinary sharing without an exemption. It covers one child event and excludes surrogacy, exceptional circumstances and changes in family status. Services Australia decides entitlement and approves shared days under its sharing rules.
Calculate Days and Gross Payments
Allocate whole payable days across up to three payroll periods. Set an unused period’s days to zero. The supported claimant limit and remaining days show whether the allocation fits the ordinary allowance.
The daily rate follows the financial year of the claimed leave day. It is $189.62 in 2025-26 and $200.94 in 2026-27. Split a payroll period into two rows if its payable days cross that boundary.
Each row multiplies its days by the selected daily rate. The schedule retains cents for payroll checking. Estimated totals round to whole dollars. The published payment rates and day limits supply these amounts.
Enter days from the approved claim and payment advice, including any days already used when planning a full allocation. This is an allocation worksheet without calendar scheduling. It does not check concurrent-day limits or the deadline to use each day.
For employer administration, follow the dates and funded block in Services Australia’s letter. Pay through the employee’s normal pay cycle after receiving the funds. The employer payment rules explain funding and payroll duties.
Compare the Employer Arrangement
Enter the employer’s own gross payment or top-up separately for each period. Government funds and employer-funded pay remain separate in the schedule, with a combined gross total for comparison.
In this fictional example, a partnered first claimant has a child in the 130-day rule period. The other parent takes 20 days. This leaves a supported claimant limit of 110 days.
The claimant allocates 10, 10 and five days in 2026-27. Government-funded amounts are $2,009.40, $2,009.40 and $1,004.70. The headline rounds their total to $5,024, with 85 claimant days remaining.
The employer adds $600, $600 and $300 under its own policy. Employer-funded pay totals $1,500, and combined gross pay rounds to $6,524. Enter only the additional employer amount so government funds are counted once.
PAYG withholding changes the employee’s net pay. This calculator shows gross amounts and excludes super contributions. Payroll administration and tax withholding do not establish benefit entitlement or approve an employer’s leave policy.
