TaxDome Alternatives for Accountants 2026
Leaving TaxDome over cost, US-first features or tools you never open? Match your reason to TaxDome competitors that suit an Australian practice.

Tax Genie is the strongest TaxDome alternative when you mainly need checked client onboarding and signed engagement letters. It checks answers, chases corrections and sends approved details to your tax software. Keep a practice management tool for the rest of your work.
Pick a Replacement by Your Reason for Leaving
| Your reason for leaving | Start with | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Per-seat renewal cost feels high for the tools you use | Xero Partner Hub + Practice Management | Partner status changes the subscription basis. Budget separately for client-facing tools. |
| US-centred tax features do little for your Australian work | FYI with your Australian tax software | Document filing and practice work stay close to local tax tools. |
| You mainly used TaxDome to onboard new clients | Tax Genie beside your practice management tool | Checked forms, identity checks, engagement signing and follow-up replace the onboarding job. |
| You want staff work and client requests organised together | Karbon | Shared work and client tasks become the starting point. |
| You want recurring work tracked with fewer settings | Financial Cents | Recurring jobs and client reminders lead the choice. |
| You also serve US tax clients | Canopy | IRS transcripts and tax-resolution work can justify its US focus. |
If several rows apply, start with the job your team cannot complete without TaxDome, then compare the total replacement cost.
Treat these as decision scenarios. A US-based vendor can still support an Australian practice. TaxDome’s Australian organiser page describes custom questions, conditional sections and TFN prefill. The issue is whether the features and connections suit your work.
What TaxDome Does That You Must Replace
Tick each module your team opened during the last three months. Include work clients completed even when staff rarely opened that screen.
- Client portal and mobile app.
- Organisers and questionnaires.
- E-signature and engagement letters.
- Pipelines and automations.
- Client and contact records, often called CRM.
- Invoicing and payments.
- Secure messaging and document exchange.
TaxDome puts the portal, signing and billing in one login. Its organisers save progress, support conditional questions and reuse previous answers. If those tools already work together for your practice, replacing them with separate subscriptions creates extra administration.
A practice using only onboarding and signing needs a different shortlist from one running every job through TaxDome pipelines. Keep the used-module list beside each candidate below. It is your replacement checklist.
TaxDome Competitors Worth a Shortlist
Separate practice management from client onboarding. These practice-management tools organise work, while tax lodgment remains with tax software. Karbon, FYI, Xero, Financial Cents and Canopy organise wider practice work. Tax Genie handles the client onboarding job beside that work.
Tax Genie
Choose Tax Genie when your main problem is incomplete client details and repeated chasing. A guided form checks ABN, ACN and TFN format, entity details, trustee type and director ID. Rule-based checks and AI review find common client mistakes. Fixable issues go back to the client on the same private link.
Automatic email and SMS reminders chase outstanding answers and documents. Tax Genie drafts your engagement letter from those answers and the client signs online. Identity verification and AML/CTF screening sit inside the same request, with staff recording their determination.
Approved details go into your tax software and Xero Practice Manager after a field-by-field review. Completed documents can go to FYI, SharePoint, SuiteFiles, Dropbox or Google Drive. Tax Genie is priced on enquiry. Import client records and adapt your questions and letters. Decide where completed files belong.
You gain an Australian onboarding tool without rebuilding the practice’s job management. Keep your practice management and billing tools for those jobs. The Tax Genie and TaxDome comparison explains that choice in more detail.
Karbon
Karbon is the shortlist choice when shared work and client tasks drive your decision. Its client portal handles requests, document exchange and signing. Staff gain a shared place to organise work instead of splitting client requests from their jobs.
Karbon’s integration directory lists Xero and Xero Practice Manager for client, billing and contact information. Treat the transfer to other tax software as a separate requirement. Karbon’s published plans charge per user, so a move does not remove seat-based costs. Budget for rebuilding work templates and assigning existing jobs to the right staff.
Replacing a familiar combined portal and billing setup requires more than importing contacts. The Karbon and TaxDome comparison covers the wider decision.
FYI
FYI is the strongest fit when document filing and local practice-software connections matter most. Its Intermediate, Pro and Elite tiers charge per user. Elite adds practice management, time and billing, capacity planning and form building to document management.
FYI lists Xero Practice Manager, MYOB, Greatsoft and APS as practice-management connections. It also lists Xero Tax, ATO Smartdocs and ATOMate. These local connections make FYI a closer fit for an Australian document-led practice than a US tax-resolution tool.
The trade-off is implementation work. Plan your filing rules, permissions and migration before moving documents. Budget separately for onboarding and migration, and assign client requests and signatures to the tool that will handle each step.
Xero Practice Manager
Xero Practice Manager is now Xero Partner Hub + Practice Management. Xero makes it available through its Australian partner program. It brings jobs, time and billing together with client records, Xero Tax and Workpapers.
Choose it when your practice already centres its work on Xero. Subscription eligibility depends on partner status, and a paid subscription applies to new or Bronze-level practices after the trial. The trade-off against TaxDome is assembling your client-facing tools around job management.
Moving requires job categories, statuses and templates to be configured. Use its Xero connections for the work they cover. Keep a MYOB or other tax-software handover separate from that choice.
Financial Cents
Financial Cents suits recurring bookkeeping and compliance work where missed client requests delay jobs. Its published plans charge per user and include workflow templates, client requests and reminders. Its portal supports document sharing, questions and e-signature requests without a client password.
It also has proposals and engagement letters with electronic acceptance. The published payment workflow describes cards and ACH bank transfers. Those US bank-transfer terms do not establish Australian direct debit. Keep Australian payment collection and tax lodgment in your existing tools.
The gain is a recurring-work focus. The trade-off is rebuilding TaxDome pipelines, organiser questions and billing arrangements around different tools and settings. Its published pricing page lists QuickBooks Online, so a Xero or MYOB practice must plan its client-data handover separately.
Canopy
Canopy suits a practice that needs broad practice management and also performs US tax-resolution work. Standard includes client records, documents, signing, a portal, messaging, recurring workflows and invoicing. Its plans charge per user, with additional tax-service charges.
The trade-off is its US tax focus. IRS transcripts, notices and federal or state forms add nothing to ATO lodgment. Moving involves client records, files, permissions and workflow templates. Keep Australian tax-software handover separate from Canopy’s US tax features.
For more options beyond these TaxDome competitors, use the practice management software guide. For a narrower move, use the onboarding software shortlist or browse other software alternatives.
TaxDome vs Canopy
| Factor | TaxDome | Canopy |
|---|---|---|
| Client portal | Portal and mobile app | Portal, messaging and client mobile app |
| Document requests | Conditional organisers and client requests | Document checklists and custom forms |
| Workflow | Pipelines and automations | Automated and recurring task workflows |
| Billing | Invoicing and payments in the combined subscription | Invoicing and payments in Standard |
| Pricing model | Per-seat prepaid terms, with monthly options by enquiry | Per-user plans and additional tax-service charges |
Canopy’s IRS transcripts and tax resolution support US work, not Australian ATO lodgment. Choose Canopy over TaxDome here only if US tax-resolution work is a meaningful part of your practice.
TaxDome vs Financial Cents
Financial Cents is the better fit for a two-to-ten person Australian practice whose main need is recurring jobs and chased client requests. Keep Australian tax and payment tools alongside it.
| Factor | TaxDome | Financial Cents |
|---|---|---|
| Work organisation | Pipelines connect stages and automations | Recurring projects, workflow templates and client tasks |
| Client information | Conditional organisers with previous-answer prefill | Document requests and questions attached to work |
| Portal and signing | Portal, mobile app and e-signatures | Password-free portal and e-signature requests |
| Engagement letters | Included with organisers and signing | Proposals and engagement letters with electronic acceptance |
| Subscription basis | Per seat with prepaid term choices | Per-user plans with monthly and yearly options |
Financial Cents can replace more than a task list. Its portal and engagement letters cover client-facing work too. It does not replace Australian tax preparation or lodgment. Rebuild the organiser logic and pipeline actions your practice actually used before retiring TaxDome.
Splitting the Job Across Smaller Tools
A split setup puts practice management in Xero, FYI or Karbon and gives client onboarding, document filing and signing clear owners. Separate tools can fit the work better, but you maintain more logins and connections. Clients can also receive links from several places.
For an illustrative small tax practice, Xero Partner Hub + Practice Management handles jobs and time. Tax Genie collects and checks client answers, completes identity checks and signs engagement letters. FYI files completed documents, while Xero Tax handles returns. Use the approved document-filing connection so staff have one place to find the finished file.
For an illustrative bookkeeping practice, Financial Cents tracks recurring jobs and requests missing source documents. Tax Genie handles new-client onboarding and re-engagement, while Xero handles bookkeeping and invoicing. Assign one tool to each request so clients receive one reminder for each missing item.
Include implementation and staff administration when comparing costs. Add any extra signing or payment subscriptions. A smaller licence bill alone does not prove the split setup costs less.
Moving Your Clients and Records Off TaxDome
Export records before cancelling access. TaxDome’s export guidance documents CSV files for accounts, contacts, jobs, tasks, completed organisers, one-time invoices and payments. Download links expire after 24 hours. It describes copying document folders from TaxDome Drive to your local drive.
- Export client and contact records. Preserve the relationship between people and entities, and open identifiers as text so leading zeros survive.
- Copy documents, including signed engagement letters. Preserve their signing audit trail with the signed file. The general export guide does not document a signing-audit-trail export, so check a complete signed-file sample before cancellation.
- Export invoices and payment history. One-time invoices have a CSV export. Keep recurring billing instructions separately from the invoices already raised.
- Review open organisers. The documented CSV export is for completed organisers. Preserve unfinished answers and attachments before withdrawing the old requests.
- Rebuild pipelines, automations and organiser templates. Record each trigger, action, owner and reminder rule so the new setup repeats the intended work.
- Open sample exports and reconcile record counts. Confirm you can read documents and find signed letters without the old login before cancelling access.
The TPB requires service records for at least five years after each service is complete. Its record-keeping guidance distinguishes this from other retention duties. Keep identity-check records for at least five years after the client engagement ends.
The ATO generally requires most business records for five years, with different starting points and longer periods for some records. Migration does not restart or shorten those periods. Assign a retention rule to each record type instead of deleting the whole former-client folder after five years.
For practices covered by the Australian Privacy Principles, APP 11 requires reasonable destruction or de-identification steps when personal information is no longer needed. Retention duties and other lawful needs must end first. Apply the separate TFN rules to records containing TFN information.
Use this client message as a starting point. Add your actual sender address and portal domain before sending it.
We’re changing the way we send document requests and engagement letters. Your next request will arrive from the sender address and portal domain listed below. You can also open the portal from our usual website. If a message looks unfamiliar, call our usual number before opening it. We’ll tell you when your old portal access ends.
Send that notice through your existing client channel before the first new request. Keep the old access long enough to finish the export checks and resolve outstanding client work.
