The Pay Event and the Deadline

This payday super calculator estimates the employer contribution and the date it must reach the employee’s fund. For paydays from 1 July 2026, the ordinary window ends seven business days after payday. The payday is when you pay eligible earnings, even if payroll records another date.

The tool covers paydays from 1 April 2026 to 30 June 2027. Select Quarterly for earnings paid in the final quarter before Payday Super starts. Those contributions remain due by 28 July 2026. Select Payday Super for earnings paid from its commencement.

The business-day count starts after payday. Saturdays, Sundays and state-wide or territory-wide public holidays are excluded across Australia. A holiday in another state can extend your deadline. The calendar includes the holidays in the ATO’s published due-date calendar, including its listed part-day holidays.

Contribution and Payment Timing

The contribution estimate is 12% of the eligible earnings you enter for one employee. Enter earnings after you have applied any contribution-base limit. The tool rounds a fractional cent up so the estimate covers the full calculated amount.

For Payday Super, qualifying earnings include ordinary time earnings, all commissions and eligible salary sacrifice amounts. Some payments to workers covered by the extended employee definition also qualify. Count each amount once. The ATO’s qualifying earnings guidance explains which payments belong in the base. For the final quarterly period, use ordinary time earnings instead.

In this fictional example, an employer pays $3,000 of adjusted eligible earnings on 23 October 2026. The estimated contribution is $360.00. The ordinary receipt deadline is 4 November 2026, because the business-day count excludes the Melbourne Cup public holiday.

A planned $360.00 contribution received on 29 October is within that window. A $330.00 contribution leaves a $30.00 amount shortfall even when received before the deadline. The comparison assumes the contribution is available for this pay event.

Choose Fund receipt when you know the date the fund is expected to receive the payment and its allocation information. For a clearing house or fund portal, choose Send date and enter the expected business-day processing time. Sending on the deadline can still produce late receipt. The processing entry is your assumption, not a delivery guarantee.

Check Exceptions Before Paying

Choose First contribution when the 20-business-day window applies to a new employee or an eligible change of fund. Later paydays ordinarily return to seven business days. For an eligible out-of-cycle payment, enter the next regular payday: its seven-business-day window determines the deadline.

An ATO exceptional-circumstances determination can extend the deadline for a covered employer and payday. Enter its date only after confirming that coverage. The tool uses the later of 20 business days after payday and 20 business days after the determination.

If the bunching rule applies, enter the earlier payday’s verified extended deadline for the same employee. The tool retains that later date when it exceeds the current payment’s deadline. Review the eligibility conditions in the ATO’s payment deadline rules before selecting an extension.

During the changeover, payments received through 28 July 2026 are allocated to outstanding quarterly amounts first. From 29 July, payments are allocated to Payday Super amounts. Reconcile the final quarterly balance before treating a July contribution as covering a new payday.

The tool assesses one event for an employee whose eligibility and earnings base you have already established. It excludes Norfolk Island rates, defined benefit arrangements, charge calculations and any higher obligation under an award or agreement. Salary sacrifice contributions do not satisfy the employer’s minimum contribution.

Confirm that the fund accepts the payment with the information needed to allocate it. A timing estimate alone does not confirm that the employer has met its obligation. Entered amounts stay on this page and are neither sent nor saved.
