Count or Add Working Days

This business day calculator adds or subtracts working days to find a finish date. Choose Count between dates to count working days from a start date to an end date. The end date is included in the count.

Exclude start begins counting on the following day, or the preceding day when subtracting. Include start counts the starting date as day one when it is a working day. A weekend or excluded holiday never counts as day one.

Enter a negative whole number to work backwards. Zero days returns the entered start date, even when it falls on a weekend. A date range must end on or after its start date.

Weekends and Public Holidays

Working days are Monday to Friday, excluding full-day general holidays in the selected state or territory. Weekend holidays appear in the weekend total. A separate weekday substitute appears in the holiday total, so the calculator excludes each date once.

The calendars cover 2026 and 2027, with Victoria limited to the end of August 2027. The Victorian calendar includes the standard Melbourne Cup holiday. Regional replacements, local show days, bank-only holidays and part-day holidays are outside this calculation. Tasmania’s public-service Easter Tuesday is also excluded.

The Fair Work public holiday lists link to each jurisdiction’s calendar. A statutory deadline can use its own definition of business day, service rules or holiday treatment. Apply that specific rule before assigning a legal deadline.

A Practice Task Window

In this fictional example, a practice allows ten business days after a Monday to complete a task. With the start excluded and no weekday holidays, the finish is Monday two weeks later. The calculator shows ten working days and four excluded weekend days.

Include the same Monday and the finish moves to Friday of the following week. Only two weekend days fall inside that shorter window. A weekday holiday extends the window by another working day.

Before using the result for a client deadline, confirm the relevant place and counting rule. Check whether the triggering day counts, whether local holidays apply and whether the deadline has a time-of-day requirement. Dates remain in this page without browser storage or an upload.

Identify the Financial Year

The financial-year figure shows the twelve-month period containing your entered start date. The default year ends on the last day of June and starts on the first day of July. Change the year-end month for a different accounting period.

A date on the selected year end remains in that financial year. The next day starts a new financial year. A December year end uses the calendar year as its label. Other year ends show both years, with the exact boundaries beneath the result.

Choosing a different year end changes this period lookup. It leaves the working-day calculation unchanged and does not establish eligibility for a substituted tax accounting period.
