Class Super Pricing vs BGL Simple Fund 360 in 2026

Choosing between Class and BGL Simple Fund for your SMSF clients? Compare Class Super pricing, fund setup and data feeds before you move funds.

Class Super pricing requires a practice-specific quote. Choose Class for its included direct feeds and bulk administration. Choose BGL Simple Fund 360 when its per-fund licence and separately selected data services suit your fund book and existing staff experience.

Class or BGL: Which Suits Which SMSF Practice

Class suits a practice that wants direct feeds within its licence and handles many funds through shared consoles. Practices already using BGL can retain staff experience while choosing a published per-fund charging model. Neither choice is decided by fund count alone.

For a practice taking on a handful of SMSFs, BGL’s initial minimum of five funds affects the cost of unused capacity. Class’s tailored quote needs to cover that same small book. For a specialist administrator, feed coverage and bulk review can outweigh a difference in the licence charge.

Compare both products against the actual bank accounts and investments in your fund book. A supported broker does not mean every account type or historical period is available. Existing staff experience also affects the work required to move funds.

Class Super Pricing and What Each Fund Costs

Class Super uses tailored annual licensing, so the practice’s cost per fund comes from its quote. Class’s product page describes unlimited users, implementation and support within that licence. It also describes direct bank, broker and wrap feeds at no additional cost.

Class’s document-feed material includes statements from Macquarie and HUB24, with establishment documents from NowInfinity. Those feeds depend on the relevant active connection. A document feed does not mean every document for every investment arrives automatically.

Request a schedule showing the minimum commitment, fund-volume bands and the treatment of additional services. Divide the total recurring charge by the funds you will actually administer. Keep one-off costs separate when comparing later years.

A fund winding up still needs its final records and reporting completed. Class’s wind-up guide says suspending the fund stops its billing and tells users to lodge TBAR files before suspension. An empty bank account alone is insufficient evidence that billing has stopped.

For a fund with no activity, use its recorded licence status and contract terms when budgeting. Require the quote to state whether an active but dormant fund is billable. The same question applies to suspended funds that you later reactivate.

Class is part of the HUB24 group. Its SMSF administration product is still named Class Super.

BGL Simple Fund 360 for SMSF Clients

BGL Simple Fund 360 Professional is charged per fund per year, with a monthly subscription option. Its published terms start with five funds and allow single-fund increases afterwards. Bank Data and Share Data are separate add-ons, so the base licence alone is not the full feed cost.

BGL’s product material covers investment accounting, member and pension records, financial statements and annual return preparation. Its workpapers hold supporting documents and preparation evidence. Staff can review transaction matching and exceptions before finalising the fund.

The practical cost comparison is the licence plus the data services your funds need. Include any chosen document-processing service and conversion work in the offer. Compare the same services across both products, with GST treated consistently.

BGL also sells CAS 360 for company and trust administration. That is a separate choice covered by the software for registering companies and trusts.

Other SMSF Administration Software

SuperMate is another current SMSF administration product for Australian practices. Its enterprise focus suits an administrator assessing a larger fund book and shared processing. SuperMate’s product material describes transaction matching, document data extraction and connections to audit and actuarial services.

An outsourced SMSF administrator is an alternative when you want another team to prepare accounts and returns. That decision changes who does the work as well as which software stores it. Compare the service scope, response responsibilities and access to the fund’s records.

An outsourced arrangement still needs a clear handover between your practice, the administrator and the approved auditor. Set who obtains trustee documents and who follows up audit questions. Agree who holds the client relationship and who authorises lodgement.

If the wider practice also needs returns for individuals and business entities, use the tax software comparison. An SMSF administration licence does not settle that broader choice.

Setting Up a New SMSF Client in Each System

Set up the fund from its accepted records, then reconcile the opening position before processing new transactions. Establishing the fund is a separate task covered by the SMSF establishment checklist.

  1. Record the fund’s ABN and TFN through your practice’s secure collection method. Enter its legal name, trustee type and the corporate trustee details where applicable.
  2. Add the members and their accumulation or pension accounts. Record pension commencement information and the supporting decisions.
  3. Bring in the opening trial balance and investment parcels. Include tax and capital losses, member components and outstanding liabilities.
  4. Compare the converted records with the previous financial statements. Resolve differences before current-year processing or lodgement.
  5. Reconcile each member’s transfer balance history to the ATO record and prior reports. Mark events already lodged so the move does not duplicate them.

For a move from BGL to Class, Class’s transitions guide requests a report pack containing fund details and financial reports. A separate pack supplies transfer balance history. Class loads the fund through its transitions service, after which the practice reviews the converted records.

For a move from Class to BGL, the Class export file supplies history from the last finalised position. BGL’s conversion guide excludes current-year and mid-year transactions from that conversion. Obtain those transactions separately for CSV import, then reconcile them against the opening position.

Collect the bank data authority for each supported account. Have the account’s required signatories sign it, unless that bank uses an online approval. Broker and wrap feeds use their own account-holder or adviser authority arrangements.

BGL’s bank-feed guidance allows up to 10 to 15 business days for bank approval. Wrap and investment-provider approval can take several weeks. Keep statements available for the interval before a feed begins and prevent duplicate transactions when importing the missing period.

Pension history requires more than the current pension balance. Keep commencement amounts, commutations and previously reported events with the fund. Use the transfer balance account reporting guide for the reporting rules that apply to those events.

Lodging, Reporting and the Annual Audit

Both products support SMSF annual return lodgement through Standard Business Reporting (SBR), while their TBAR instructions use files uploaded through ATO online services. These are separate reporting steps.

Class requires the fund’s tax-agent relationship and SBR details before annual return lodgement. BGL requires the correct lodging party and software-provider authorisation. In both products, staff must review the return and retain its declaration and lodgement response.

The ATO software product register lists Class Application and Simple Fund 360. Registration identifies supported digital services. It does not make every report a direct in-software lodgement.

Class’s TBAR Console generates files for portal upload, then records the lodged status and ATO reference. BGL’s TBAR Management screen also prepares a file for upload and requires staff to mark it lodged afterwards. Assign that final step so a prepared file is not mistaken for an accepted report.

Class’s auditor guide says the accountant or administrator arranges the report packages the auditor needs. BGL’s auditor guide describes access to live reports and documents, including uploading the completed audit report. Give the auditor access to the evidence required for the engagement without granting unnecessary preparation permissions.

Cloud audit connections can reduce repeated requests by sharing fund information and recording audit status. Keep unanswered requests with an owner until the underlying evidence arrives. Use the SMSF audit checklist to prepare the annual file.

Automated document extraction and transaction matching can help staff prepare that file. The approved auditor must still evaluate the evidence and reach an independent conclusion. An AI classification or matched transaction does not itself prove ownership, valuation or compliance.

Questions to Put to Each Vendor Before You Move Funds

Request a written offer for your actual fund book and use it to settle the operating terms. Give each vendor the same fund count and account list.

  • What is the per-fund cost at our volume, including minimum capacity and the treatment of dormant or winding-up funds?
  • Which bank, broker and document feeds are included, and which need a separate subscription?
  • What contract term, renewal conditions and cancellation notice apply?
  • What data, documents and pension history can we export on exit, in which formats and for how long?
  • Where is client data hosted, and which providers can access it under the agreement?
  • Which audit connections does our auditor use, and how are queries and returned reports retained?
  • What conversion work is included, and who resolves a difference in opening balances?

Trial the conversion on one representative fund before moving the whole book. Use a fund with a pension and the investment types you regularly administer. Accept the move only after its opening balances and transfer balance history reconcile, its evidence is accessible and responsibility for pending reports is assigned.
